Contest Overview

It is crucial that we highlight the impact that national service has in communities across the country, and in the lives of those who serve. That’s why Save Service in America, a campaign led by Voices for National Service and ServiceNation, and AmeriCorps Alums has launched the first ever “I Serve Because…” video contest. Watch the video on the right, then follow the instructions below to submit your own. For suggestions of specific topics to discuss in your video, click here

Once you have read the instructions, upload your video to YouTube then submit it below. We will review your video and post it on the “I Serve Because…”Submission Gallery.

Your video should be authentic and tell your story, but we’ve put together some talking points to help you get started.

How to Make a "I Serve Because..." Video

Please submit only one video under two minutes in length.

YouTube/Google Account
In order to upload your video on this website, you must have a valid YouTube account. If you prefer to email your video, please submit it to info@saveservice.org. Be sure to include all the reqired sign-up form information in the body of your message.

Clear sound is crucial.
If no one can hear it, no one will watch it. Make sure to shoot in quiet environments and project.

Don't backlight.
Make sure light is on your face and not behind it — i.e. don't sit in front of a bright window.

• Title your video.
Use the title "I Serve Because…" and include your name and location - ex: "I Serve Because: Jane in Raleigh, NC".

Include a caption script.
If you can, submit a transcript of your video as a caption file on YouTube. This will help make sure your video is accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
